FAQs
How has the community been involved to this point?
Council officers have met with the Pukerua Bay Residents Association to discuss the future of the former Plunket building and further community engagement.
In April 2023, Council also conducted a survey of Pukerua Bay residents to ensure we have the suite of options for the Building about right. The pre-engagement indicated that the preferred options are for a café/food and beverage business, or a community hub at Wairaka Park.
Can the Building be fixed?
Council’s preferred option is that the building be removed. It is in poor condition, not fit for purpose as a community building, and costly to bring up to a usable standard.
What happens if the Building is removed?
If the Building is removed, the bare land could either: (A) be restored to open space; or (B) be leased by a community group, who would erect a new building on the site.
Any future lease would need to step through a separate lease tender process, so that the process is transparent, fair, and we find the best fit for the site.
