We are looking at introducing a Business Park Small Unit Rating Package for the 2025/26 rating year (as a continuation of the review started as part of the Long-term Plan 2024–34).
The change is proposed because the current rating system is unfriendly to the small-sized units in a business park setting, as the high fixed rates and the business differential makes the rates very high compared with the capital value of the unit.
The reasons Council wishes to implement this rates package:
small businesses are the backbone of the local economy, keeping money within the community, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth
small businesses help preserve the community's identity, culture, and history, making the area a more desirable place to live and work in
small businesses often offer unique, innovative, and personalised products and services that can’t be found elsewhere. This diversity enriches the community and attracts visitors
by supporting local small businesses, the city’s carbon footprint is reduced due to the community being able to source inputs locally (buy local)
alignment with rates on these small sized properties with our neighboring cities.
