Lyttelton Avenue Car park, next to Porirua Stream
We would like to hear your views on whether we should sell or keep the Lyttleton Avenue car park. Our preference is to sell the site.
We originally consulted on this site back in 2015 and at that time we decided to retain the site for a housing development that subsequently did not proceed.
The options we are considering are:
Option 1 – Sell the site
Option 2 - Keep the site
Option 2 (a) – Lease the site for private car parking
Option 2 (b) – Paid Parking – Zone 4
Option 2 (c ) – Status quo – all day free casual car parking
Council’s preference is for the site to be sold for the following reasons:
This option is considered the most cost effective and financially prudent. We would use the revenue from the sale of the site to reduce debt.
We currently get no financial return from this site.
There is no funding allocated for the for the tarmac / pavement work that may be required if we retain the site. If we completed this work, it would result in a minor rates impact.
It allows a competitive open sales market process to be followed, which should ensure the best return.
